Bill, I checked the band adjustment, fresh fluid & filter before I installed it initally FWIW

Sounds like it, leakage at the seals or sealing rings.

It takes considerably more pressure to apply a clutch than it does to keep it applied.




So I assume the issue lies within the trans and not the valve body.
And the only fix is to tear it down and rebuild it.
