What always happened to mine is I would break about 1/2 of a tooth off the ring gear. Then another 1/2 and again. Finally, the pinion would land on a spot on the ring gear where two 1/2 teeth were broken, then it would "shell" the ring gear at that spot. The damage was always done at the starting line. It finally pick up a broken tooth , between the ring and pinion when I lifted at the finnish line and momentarally lock up the rear end. Lucky for me it broke something else and turn it loose. Locked up rear end at 100 mph is not something I ever want to do again.
It was at that point that I put a Dana rear end in.
