I use gas but it is stupid and dangerous to do it that way. But I never said I was too bright.

You do mean any that gets on the bearing/axle cap don't you? Never too much grease inside the hub or smeared on the bearing surface.. Make sure to put a light layer of grease on the seal surface too.
