It does put it closer (in my case). I have 3 5\8 but mine is for an early B-body. Yours might be slightly different. They build them for specific body styles. Check out there website, and call them. I had them fab up a shroud without a hole in it that was 1 inch off of the core I then installed it and marked it for water pump center line, cut the hole and fabed up the extension. I would go for it, it solved all of my cooling problems. I tried alot of ideas, big electric fans, big cross flow aluminum radiator, played with timing, vacuume advance settings, large max wedge stock radiator. I even brought an LM-1 to check air fuel ratio, (I am glad I got one as it is a very good tuning tool). I fought it for 3 years, it got to the point where I was only enjoying my Hemi car in the spring and fall. (I live in the midwest). The Griffin Rad solved all of my problems.
