So I never really had this figured out. In fact, it got worse: while I was driving, after a hard acceleration, it would die on me while I was still moving. So today I decided to take the top hat of the Edelbrock off the carb body. And it's a good thing I did; these pictures will tell all:

What the hell is this stuff? Dirt, gasoline, and water, as far as I can tell...

How could this happen, you ask? Use a plastic FRAM fuel filter and find out...

The plastic bottom distorted and opened up, allowing dirt right through the filter

I realize I shouldn't have that much dirt in my fuel system, but this was before I had cleaned out my tank. Now it's cleaned and I am putting some water-be-gone in my fuel tank to clear out all the water that may be in there.

I have cleaned the carb and hopefully this will fix my problems
