Look in the tech archives for a thread on using a GM CS120(I think that is the right number) alternator.

I am using one and AFAIK it works great!! Easy to fab and wire in also.

Were you thinking of a CS130? those are very common. I picked one up at a swap meet last summer for $20 expecting to use it for a core, but it tested perfect

Electric fans big enough to cool a big-block on the street may well pull more than all the other loads put together... think 30-40 amps!

Just looked it up. The biggest one on Summit site was the Flex-a-lite 775 and it draws 28 Amps. That takes you up to about 65 Amps total. That would be 812 Watts or about 1.1 horsepower lost in the alternator, if conversion is 100% efficient.
