Ok guys, I got the roof back together after cleaning and re-greasing. It seems to work, but there is a spot where it is quite difficult to crank, this seems to happen just before it is fully closed. I am afraid that the high effort required to crank it will strip something out.

Is this "hard to crank" area normal, or is there a problem?

The point where it gets hard to crank is when the cables are pulling the rear of the panel up over those humps on the cable covers. There's no adjustment to be made.
It is normal to encounter some resistance at that point but not to the point where it feels like something is going to give way.
The ends of the cables have little ramps that lift the rear of the panel to go flush with the roof. They are made of pot metal and easily broken.
The only thing I can suggest is to make sure everything in that area is clean and lubed with fresh grease, and that the panel lifts aren't broken.

If you park your car in a garage or even cover it outside you can just crank it closed and not ramp it up to save on wear & tear. I don't close mine all the way most of the time.
