Based on what I've read over the years it is stronger and safer to mount them that way. That's why Ma Mopar did it on all the factory wheels. Also, it is a lot quicker and faster to mount the wheels on the vehicle when they are hub centric. FWIW I know Rick Ehrenberg is a big advocate of hub centric.
not all the factory wheels are hub centric. I had some stock steel rims off of a '97 van on my '96 ram and they weren't hub centric...I don't thing the magnum 500's were hub centric, either.
