I'm asking the questions along with you. I'm in about your same situation.

Question: Least expensive path to 450 hp that's easy on the valvetrain/parts, not a lot of maintance, and a small enough cam that not going to lug and lope real hard?

And the parts you have lying around do factor into the budget. What size valves are in those J Heads you have? That may factor in the decision making.
