91 and older need a notch ground in the belhousing for the crank sensor, about 5 minutes a die grinder and an aluminum cutter will fix that.

96 and newer have the big plug with way too many wires.

Any dakota or Ram or van a-500 in those year ranges will work (or easily be made to work).

The jeep A-500 guts will all work but the 4.0 uses a different bolt pattern all together and the 5.2 jeep has the starter on the wrong side and will cause exhaust fitment issues if you try to swap the starter to the other side.

You can tow it without a trailer and with out doing anything but put the transfer case in neutral
