Dakota Transmission - 12/30/09 07:12 PM

I have a 1993 Dakota 4x4 with the 318 V8 Automatic transmission. The transmission is bad. My questions are:

1) Can this truck be towed on a tow dolly without any more damage being done to the transmission.

2) What year(s) of automatic transmissions will work on this truck or should I just stick with the 93? I was hoping that a newer trans would work.

Thanks,
Bill

Disconnect the drive shaft from the rearend and tie it up out of the way. I think your's was the last year for the three prong od and lock up wiring connector. The newer trans used a differnt wiring setup IIRC.

96 was the first year of the RE's instead of the RH's in the trucks. so any lockup, pre '96 tranny should work.

91 and older need a notch ground in the belhousing for the crank sensor, about 5 minutes a die grinder and an aluminum cutter will fix that.

96 and newer have the big plug with way too many wires.

Any dakota or Ram or van a-500 in those year ranges will work (or easily be made to work).

The jeep A-500 guts will all work but the 4.0 uses a different bolt pattern all together and the 5.2 jeep has the starter on the wrong side and will cause exhaust fitment issues if you try to swap the starter to the other side.

You can tow it without a trailer and with out doing anything but put the transfer case in neutral
