Put one end in a vice and pull to the side to put washers between every coil (on both sides). Install it and then dig the washers out. Be sure to leave some of the hole exposed to get a screwdriver in.

It's been a while since I put one in. Trying to think why when after installed that the washers weren't easily removed after depressing the clutch pedal.

I'd be interested to hear other "methods".
