Keep in mind wire has voltage drop, the higher the current the more voltage drop for a given wire diameter per foot. A four headlamp Hella system with standard sized bulbs(2 55/60 watt H4s and 2 60watt H1s), on high beam will pull about 17amps of total current, considerably less voltage drop on a 12ga wire than on a 16ga. H4 and H1 bulbs are available in wattages that will simply melt 16 gauge wiring.

What gauge wire would you recommend, or what wattage should we limit ourselves to if keeping the 16 gauge wire? Would keeping the 16 gauge wire defeat the purpose?
