Keep in mind wire has voltage drop, the higher the current the more voltage drop for a given wire diameter per foot. A four headlamp Hella system with standard sized bulbs(2 55/60 watt H4s and 2 60watt H1s), on high beam will pull about 17amps of total current, considerably less voltage drop on a 12ga wire than on a 16ga.
H4 and H1 bulbs are available in wattages that will simply melt 16 gauge wiring.
