smiles per gallon is what you should be concerned about, not miles per gallon.
seriously, having the vacuum advance hooked up and tuned for your combination [use the set screw inside the hose nipple to adjust tip in and make sure the advance can doesn't over advance] will make a big difference at steady cruise.
