I run a Indy 440-25 on my wedge. Similar design to a Rat Rooster. The trick to starting without launching the top is patience. Cold; Pump the throttle fully 2 times and wait 20-30 seconds. Then open the throttle 1/2 way. Crank with ignition on. Usually it will fire with-in 2 revolutions or less. Hot; crack the throttle 1/3 way and crank with ignyion on. When it's below 45 degrees through a cloth fender cover over the carbs a sa choke. Once the manifold is warmed up it really drives nice. No stuffers, baffels or dams. You can hear the motor get happy with intake heat. I have popped the top off in the past. Since using this method no issues. Car has over 950 passes with this intake.
