When you get into studying vin stamping several things make a difference, such as assembly plant, time frame of the build, ext. I have even seen some vins be stamp totally above the machine surface, into the raw casting area.

The comments on the Bat site State Dave Wise addressed this and states it’s a legit stamp. I worked on a Kenworth line for a few years and there were certainly times when SOP was deviated.
