The 2009 5.7 has (basically) a 6.1 port configuration along with variable valve timing to try to get around the monster head deal. I tore down an '09 a couple weeks ago for a peek. The cam sprocket has inner and outer sections, there are oil chambers between the sections in the back, and a solonoid to control which way the oil goes, to move the cam one way or the other. Then there's a big clock spring to hold it in place before the VCT activates, so it doesn't flop around. Didn't get a chance to check with a degree wheel but eyeballing it, it looks like that apparatus can move the cam maybe 20 degrees(?), maybe more(?).
