I have a Dakota 1000 sonic tester that I use to test cast iron and aluminum as well as other metals.
I've seen a cylinder wall vary .050 about in a area about 1.0 inch circle on the same side of that cylinder
My message is each block will be different in different areas, they are not precise castings
