Only on engines with a thick, cast timing cover. So, small block Chrysler's, pontiacs...damn I think FE ford but for the life of me I can't think of what that cover looks like, the 385 series fords.

You get the idea. If it's a stamped tin cover then you need a cast aluminum cover to fix the idle to.
