The PPG paint store where I bought my materials from told me to use DP epoxy primers right on top of bare metal. They did sell me a can of the DX metal conditioner and told me to use that to clean and treat the metal with prior to spraying. They told me that the epoxy was better at sealing out moisture than the etching primer. My Dart along with my brother's entire car have been done in this fashion..... My car was rust free to begin with so hopefully there won't be a problem.

My dad had a set of chevy rally wheels sandblasted and then coated with an etching primer followed by delstar. This is a dry weather only car and the wheels already have rusty spots growing on them.
