Andy - you should measure the voltage drop on the ground circuit. Measure from the negative battery post to the starter housing. I personally would use my Fluke 87 and use the min/max memory function at the fast sampling rate, but just watching it is fine. Between your ground cable and the body ground, the drop should be minimal. I would expect the drop to definitely be under 1 volt. Unfortunately I don't remember what mine came in at.
