I'd drain it real well, letting it sit for long time on a bit of an angle if you can, then close it up and add what the Factory Service Manual states it should have. Then if you don't have a reading on your dipstick, someone along the way must have put the wrong one in??? Or if it does read on stick, score it in proper place.
