Something is wrong other than the straps, they are there to hold the U joint back into the yoke solidly, not to take any of the load from the U joint or driveshaft scope
Yukon sells replacement billet aluminum yoke that comes with U bolts instead of straps for the 8 3/4 rear ends, just like the Mopar stock Dana 60 steel 1330 yokes have scope
