Buy a vehicle you do not value and drive it during the winter. Buy this vehicle cheap in the fall and sell it in the spring for (hopefully) a profit. This is the best method to preserve a vehicle in the rust belt.

If you got 7 years out of your truck, that is not to bad. I've seen rusted trucks that were less than 10 years old around Chicago!!
