Though the infamous "Silver Bullet" is more your breed, it wouldn't hurt to incorporate some of its DNA tricks to yours like you mentioned. Wheels and various suspension parts could also shed weight. Weight loss will bring results, but may have to make due of some$$. Watch out though, weight loss can be contagious and lead to a unsound car on the street.
