I guess you could install the motor plate with the motor sitting on the motor mounts for locating it, then remove the mounts
The ears break off usually because they went to the solid mounts and no limiters... the ears cant take the fore and aft movement of the engine. Even with a motor plate it is advised that you use limiters to control the fore and aft movement
