Per the diagram I would want the can pointing straight across over to the drivers side & the #1 plug wire clocked just "above" (in the pic) the forward cap clip holddown. first turn the dampener to your desired initial such as 15 BTDC #1 firing and you want the magnet dead even with the tooth. confirming that the springs are retracted, you want the rotor near under or slightly CCW (even better) from dead center plumb with/of the center of the #1 cap terminal bulge. As said start with the slot parallel to the eng CL then move if needed (& it can be anywhere) & you can actually have the can anywhere it has room to be turned & doesn't hit anything/#1 plug wire anywhere to start but maintaining the OE order lets the plug wires lay the neatest (to some extent) & helps prevent future mistakes (always a good thing).
