As far as wiring goes, yes you need a bypass with increased loads and alternator output.

Re pop factory wiring will not take the current. With M&H harness I ran 6 gauge bypass from alternator to fender relay and from there to starter and battery in trunk via 1 gauge cable. I put a 10 gauge fusible link in the 6 gauge cable between alternator and fender relay.

Also, I believe conventional regulator (eg 3 wire) is better and that is what I run on my Mopar. One wire is OK... the charge wire just needs to be heavy and short because remote voltage sensing is not compensating alternator output for voltage loss in the wiring.

Maybe I have been lucky... the black MP voltage regulator I bought 15 years ago still works fine with my bigger alternator. I cannot same the same about the "premium" reman alternators that I have run.
