Years ago my dad let me use one of his 8" TA converters in my car to replace the stock one. One condition was that I had to have a trans temp guage since I drove the car on the street. That was one of the most active guages on the car as I put it in the hot line going to the cooler. It would be 280ish on a run but be 180 by the time I got my time slip. I was running a small stacked plate cooler ahead of the stock trans cooler in the rad.
