I would start with a split cam with 8* more on the exhaust. The intake duration is dictate the rpm band. A 114 is a real smooth idle, 112 is a good idle, 110 has the muscle car chop. 108 starts to sound nasty.

I used a Crane 272-284 (216/228 @ .050) .454-/480-112 that was very friendly for a driver with a 904 & 3.23's on a stock tire. The car also had headers into a 2-1/2 exhaust. It delivered nice power and mileage. It should power the 340 in your car to mid 14's. This maybe to mello for you?
IIRC, the RPM range was 1200 - 5500.

that MP cam is the upgraded 340 cam. Nice performer for sure.
