Small block cam recommendations for exhaust manifolds - 01/02/16 05:21 PM
Happy New Year MOPARTS!
I am building a stock stroke 360 (+030) for my 68 Barracuda.
I have a set of 340 heads and exhaust manifolds. 10:1 compression, aluminum dual plan manifold. 3.23 gear and 3000 stall converter. What should I be looking for in a cam, taking into account I'm using the hi-po manifolds? Headers are not an option...I want the car to look stock. I have a MP P4452761AC Camshaft, 0.450"/0.455" Lift, 268/272 Adv. Duration.
Thanks

Is it in the T/A or the Duster?...they both look like the run well!

Back when Scott Brown picked the cam in my signature, I was running the 340 HP manifolds on my combo with a 3500 converter and 3:55's. He chose to keep the duration at 226 with the 112 CL. It worked excellent with the HP manifolds!

I would start with a split cam with 8* more on the exhaust. The intake duration is dictate the rpm band. A 114 is a real smooth idle, 112 is a good idle, 110 has the muscle car chop. 108 starts to sound nasty.
I used a Crane 272-284 (216/228 @ .050) .454-/480-112 that was very friendly for a driver with a 904 & 3.23's on a stock tire. The car also had headers into a 2-1/2 exhaust. It delivered nice power and mileage. It should power the 340 in your car to mid 14's. This maybe to mello for you?
IIRC, the RPM range was 1200 - 5500.
that MP cam is the upgraded 340 cam. Nice performer for sure.
