Stuff like that is usually only covered on basic warranty.

I know we replace many at Ford(my day job), and very rarely are they under warranty.
Commonly they are physically damaged during improper steering gear replacement, or other component work.

Also commonly damaged in collisons.

Neither situation would be the parts fault, even if it was still under the warranty period.
