Okay, hate to start another gen 3 thread but I kind of fell into a couple deals and do not know which way to go.

Deal # 1 Brand new 6.1 Short Block at a buddy's house that he wants to sell.

Deal # 2 Brand new 6.4 Short Block that was ordered and never picked up.

I can get a great deal on either one, but given these two short blocks, which one would you go with?

I want to build a N/A motor for a 68 b body. Carb'd, 11:1 compression, basically a hot street motor built the old way with a gen 3 foundation.

I understand they both have forged cranks, but the rods and pistons will probably be switched out for forged items.

Which one would you pick and why?

Which block is stronger? Please bear in mind that I will be getting a good price on either so I can use some of that money for better internals.

Thanks Moparts!!

If price is comparable the choice is easy. Get the 6.1. Timing chain set is better for hot-rodding, camshafts are cheaper, etc.

IMO, you ONLY want the 6.4 if you want to keep it mostly stock and run it with a factory computer. Obviously Steff is a rock star and designed a belt drive to get around the shortcomings, but for the common man the 6.1 is easier to work with.

Put a set of eagle or apache heads and go play. If you want to go with forged internals, lots of good options. Wiseco has always treated me well with wiseco pistons and K1 rods and get the nod in my book.
