Alright, other possibilities would be that the gauge is bad or that the return line is bleeding off to much psi (dont remember how big an orifice you used but I dont think it was outrageous). yes I would crimp the return line with some pliers and a rag to protect the neoprene from the jaw serrations & that'd elim it in 1 minute.
