Most valve springs don't break unless thier is a reason I have learn the hard way to set the valve springs up by pressure and always check for valve retainer and keepers to the valve seals and ALWAYS check for coil bind hieght versus max open hieghts I shoot for .060 to .100 between max lift hieghts and coil binds hieghts, I check all 16 valve springs and rockers for lift at the retainers Lots of gremlins out there, it only takes one to get you

My Dad (RATKLR) called it before I did, when I mentioned that the motor quit pulling above 5600 he said I should get the springs checked before putting the motor back in. The wierd thing is they didn't seem to be floating or at least you couldn't tell easily if they were. E.T would just drop off. I'll talk to my machinist tomorrow to determine possible reason for failure. Just another reason to dream about how much faster the car will be when I get the motor back together. Thanks for all the input! I'll keep you guys posted.
