Make sure the shift cable and linkage onto the shift lever on the valve body, make sured so the pin on the end of the cable will drop into the hole in the lever in nuetral, then low,then second and then drive. Drop in, no forcing or driving it in Depending on which shifter you have it may not drop into reverse or park but make sure the shifter cable is adjusted so it will drop into nuetral and all three forward gears
