Maybe I'm off base here, but I thought the outer perimeter was chrome, with semi-black in the trough. I thought everything inside the black trough was textured argent as you see remaining left in the recesses (the rest is weathered away). Bolt heads are semi-black also. So in short, the only chrome finish is the rim around the edges and the 340-s text. On non-hp cars, the same perimeter chrome and black in the trough and bolts with chrome ribs/vents, the rest textured argent.

Seems to make sense. I was waiting for someone to posted a NOS set or better yet some low mile originals. Oh well, at least we started to get some replies.

Ok here is an NOS 383-S set. Should be the same paint as 340-S. BUT...Always have a slight skeptism about NOS parts vs production. Especially trim items.

Seems like there are two shades of textured argent used. And I think the darker texture has more texture/grit.

So here are some very nice used 340-S hood trim that look extremely close in condition and paint wear/survival as mine.

Just my personal guess, but I think that very top light argent faded or got scratched easily. I'm thinking it wore completely off or people put it out of it's misery and finished removing what was scratched or left worn with fine steel wool and/or paint thinner.

It seems the layout I posted is just missing the lighter argent and just the black on top of the bolt (possibly). My hood trim has the dark argent on the outer sides of the fake bolts. Now there my have been black paint on top of the argent along the outer sides, it's tough to really see on the NOS piece.
