Tom my friend, step headers work.
And it's not easy to figure it out without a ton of knowledge or a good header program.
I choose headers from Performance Welding as they have the know how and make the best headers.
If you are going for all out performance a good set of headers is a must.

Just my

I did not say you couldnt make more power using Step headers, guess many things plays part. My opinion about them, from what I read and little knowledge I have about them, is that for the couple of times a summer racer its just not worth the hassle and money to go with custom made headers when you have such good headers from TTi. I also do NOT believe that the horsepower gain is that impressive, if you make 20 Hp more with step headers, well I do not think youll notice it much, well perhaps if you race a Pro Stocker...

All the NHRA stock and SS racers as well as some Comp Elininator racers say step headers are worth a little bit of power, ET and MPH on there race cars I seem to remeber someone dyno testing step versus straigh pprimary pipes of the same size as the first step and the steps worked better. The first motor I built and dyno tested made a lot more HP and torque going from a set of Hooker A body fenderwell headers with 1 7/8 primaryys and 3.5 inch collectors to a set of dyno headers thet dyno owner and operator made while my motor was on his dyno, he made them with 2 1/4 primary pipes and 4.0 collectors That motor was a 426 Max Wedge pump gas street motor with 9.5 to 1 compression on CA pump gas back in 1991 or 1992, it was for one of Boyd Coddington cars. That motor made more torque and HP all the way from 3000 RPM up to 6500 RPM when we quit pulling it there as it made peak HP at 5900 to 6100 RPM, depending on the changes we made to the tune up.

Again, how much more horsepower did that engine make with the larger size Step headers?? IF it made about 20 more, well -Sorry, Im not impressed... If you say it made more than lets say 50Hp more, then Ill call and say BS! If it made more than 50, damn that engine was denied breathing.. But I still dont buy it that it made more power just because the headers were step headers, if you had used a set of larger diameter headers my guess is that the power gains would have been about the same..
