There is a little tiny lip on the bottom of the trim, the retainer clips latch onto that. The tool neeeds to slide in between the body and the lip, it will push the lip out away from the trim, lift up the trim with your other hand and maybe use a thin screwdriver to slide in between the trim and the gasket to lift the trim up, do one clip at a time and make sure all of them (retaining clips) are disconnected from the bottom of the trim pieces. There is three or four pieces of trim, if I'm remebering correctly IHTH
