Looks like it was the lack of machining on the rotor.
The brakes work fine with no pulsing, at least on my short test drive.
I still think the caliper issue was caused from the excessive use.
A long long time ago before I knew better I used to drive Chevy's.
At that point in my life I was under the impression working on your car every weekend was normal.
