Bob the oil is flying everywhere when it's running so the only way the oil will be below the retainer is at rest with the engine not running.

Another leak point is the cluster gear pin. My 833 leaks there but I used the pin for an OD trans which is shorter than the NON od 833 . I cleaned it and filled the cavity with RTV, when I can I will pull it back apart and put in the right pin, with some type of sealer in the hole first.
