I'd suggest not useing w wire wheel (too aggressive) and if using taps/dies using a "thread chasing" set as it removes less metal than a thread cutting regular type & just cleans the threads. Shaking them up in a can of solvent sounds good then hand wire brush the threads. No exp w tumblers but I hear they work well
