I use an old solvent can, load it up with the hardware and pour in some laquer thinner or whatever. Shake it good for a few minutes and then dump everything out. Wash and rinse everything off with some dawn or simple green to get the solvent smell and as a final rinse. Cuts the grease, oil, rtv ect without stripping off any coating so they dont flash rust.

that was going to be my next question. If I were to wire wheel everything down would it rust?? We are talking valve cover and oil pan bolts right now, but water pump bolts soon. Intake bolts are going to be new as are the head studs and exhaust bolts.

Thanks daty for the hobby shop tip. After I read that I remembered harbor freight. Gonna check them out in the AM. FOR NOW though I gotta get off the Internet and get my hands dirty lol. I have an old motor from who knows what I can put a wire wheel on it. Out to the shop lol
