dodge has always had a casting problem, inventory situation , on my ww2 VC military trucks,, the motor casting are backwards,, last block in was first out on production line, they didnt care,, just grab one and go. , when a new casting batch came in, it was placed infront of the left over first batch,, then and NOW there is a gap, when production/assemble started over again.. if someone wants to start a excel spreadsheet,, you can track this, with dates, etc.
we've done this with several, wwii trucks/ jeeps, tanks etc,, its interesting to read the data

I had never heard of this with castings but I have read about this same thing happening in the same way with wheels. Apparently they came on pallets and were stored in the assembly plant. When the inventory started getting low, the plant would order more wheels, they would go in front of the existing wheel inventory and then be used before existing inventory. Sooner or later, production would get back into the original inventory and voila', a date gap. The memory is foggy but I seem to remember the article saying that a gap of up to a year (on wheels that were in current production) was not uncommon.
