You can rebuild your hinges without the extra bushing that was not there originally. RestoRick sells an oversize pin with reamer.

If you want to know how to remove the S spring and put it back, see photo. Clamp the S spring in a vise as shown, and twist the top of it with a crescent wrench. Slide the stamping downward to clear the S spring groove. Just be sure to take your own photos so you get it back together right.
