The reason for the mid-year change(04.5) was that Ford had higher HP ratings so chry/cummins changed the turbo to boost HP numbers higher than the Ford (Marketing ie 'mines bigger than yours'). This is why when you buy a turbo back exhaust kit, you have to specify 04 or 04.5 and newer.
