My guess, a 3" stud likely requires an aftermarket solution, and that implies higher strength and more sales for vendors. A rule that said 2? threads beyond lug nut would not solve the above issues Next time ask about the 2 year seat belt rule. Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
