Hi,
I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Early in December, the dash lights and radio stayed on after removing the key, I put it back in, wiggled the shifter, pulled it out and the problem was solved, so I thought.
About 10 days later, the problem happened again, but my remedy did not work. I was advised to replace the fob batteries, but tried my other factory fob, and again the problem was solved, so I thought. I went to move the truck to clear some snow and the problem came back. I disconnected the battery until I could replace the batteries in both fobs.
After replacing the batteries, the problem is still there. This time though, 1 of the fobs will lock and unlock the doors and the other won't.
I have looked this up and discovered that it could be the actual ignition switch where the fob goes in. While it's an easy replacement, it will require me to go to the dealer to get the fob paired.

Looking for any other solutions out there before having to go to the dealer.
If I replace the ignition switch, can I get the fob paired somewhere else (less expensive)?
Thanks,
Jim

I recently replaced fobs on our 08 Charger. There's a programming method for those that you can do at home. Probably something similar for the pickups.

Some local locksmiths are equipped to program fobs, and their price is usually a lot lower than the dealer. Check in your area to see if there are any available near you.

I'll call around this week. I think I read the ignition module can be purchased at NAPA which might make it easier to program.

Those modules are expensive. There is a place that will refurbish it for less, but only a 90 day warranty.

I don't think it's my fob. Maybe the ignition module?
My truck is going in tomorrow for my 5 year inspection for the lifetime warranty.
I'm not mentioning it, guess I'll see if they say anything. Wish it was covered with the lifetime powertrain warranty.
