We use GM's for company trucks (not my choice )

we bought in 2022 / 2023 4 of the 3.0 Duramax pickups.

1 has really been a problem child ,168,000 one has had less issues but, in shop often (143,000).. the wait time for parts in really unbelievable, no matter what the issue it takes at least a month. ( if you are lucky )

other ones don't get near the use due to location.

and, we have 1 2023, 2500 with a real Duramax that has 62,000 ..is in shop with transmission issues , the valve body is not working and been waiting for parts for 4 weeks for it and none in sight . if it ever gets fixed , warranty will cover it

dealer service dept is apologetic but, apparently there is nothing they can or will do to assist. (big, big, big dealer with locations all over the upper Midwest

I know , mechanical things break .. and, its just one of those deals

I am starting to shop for a new pickup and all my friends are telling me to stay clear of any diesel truck. I haul an 18 foot utility trailer and a 28 foot camper. With the cost of new trucks, I may just dump the cash into my 2016 Ford (ecoboost) that has 160,000 miles (and no issues due to regular maintenance on all items).

I am not rich...but I get off my ass everyday to make sure I am not broke!

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

Sounds like GM figured something out to save money.

If it stays in the shop during it's entire warranty period they wont have to repair anything else.

I'd take a look at the "lemon law"...

My own '89 GMC Dually has been basically bulletproof - I bought it in 1996.
Obviously, it's less complex and computerized than the newer stuff.

What kind of work? Not sure many brands would do well at 80k miles per year?

Quality must have gone down in recent years. From July of 2012 until March of 2023, my company vehicle was a 2012 Silverado 1500 extended cab 4WD. 5.3 LS with 6 speed automatic. Cheap fleet truck with AC, cruise, good radio and hand crank windows. I got the good out of it but never abused it. The only trouble it ever gave, that left me stranded was when the company decided they needed to add GPS trackers to all vehicles. eyes I was coming from Robbinsville, NC to Franklin, NC on Hwy 28. Very curvy road like the Tail of The Dragon. That stupid GPS nanny box was pulling so much info from the ECM it burnt it up. Truck was towed to the Chevy dealer in Franklin. He quizzed me as to any work done on it recently at the Dook Energy garage and I told him about the GPS nanny box. He said he'd let the Tech working on it know to check there first. He told me the local NAPA and O'Reilly's had installed nanny boxes in their trucks and in about a month, it burnt up the ECM. The Tech found that to be the problem and left it unhooked. The service manager made a notation on the repair receipt that GM would not warranty parts or labor if the GPS tracker was hooked back up. My boss got all butt hurt about it, but it remained unhooked until I retired on 4-1-23. Truck got retired same day as me, but would have been trouble free had it not been for the nanny box. It had 130K miles on it.

Our problems are due to these silly baby diesel motors

Service info always directs techs to aftermarket equipment connected to the vehicle and/or the DLC. I'm not sure about burning up modules but anything connected to the DLC can certainly disrupt data between modules on the can bus and cause issues no manufacture is going to warranty.

I drove a 2000 Silverado 1500 two wheel drive for 23 years in my job as a field geologist, often driving off road through the desert, down dry drainages, and on closed landfills. Tough duty for a truck. I retired a couple of months back and a condition of my retirement was that I got to keep that truck. It has 334,000 miles on it. I had to replace the trans a few years ago ($2000 parts and labor) and had a power steering pump fail under warranty when the truck was new. Over the years it's had one alternator, one water pump, and a radiator. Had the front end rebuilt about a year ago just because the company would pay for it before they signed it over to me. Other than that, batteries and tires.

It has a couple of dings and scrapes but it still drives great. I have 3 newer trucks in the yard but more times than not I jump in this old Chevy when running around town. This particular era of Chevy trucks are just amazingly durable and reliable.
